International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Today, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, I gave a speech to ActionAid outlining how, around the world, women can work together to tackle women's inequality and promote the rights of women and girls. I was pleased to see members of the Camberwell and Peckham International Development Advisory Panel there and look forward to our first official meeting on 3rd December 2010.

At the event I set out Labour's priorities on international development and how, in my position as Shadow Secretary of State for International Development, I will be ensuring that the Government maintains their commitment to increase the aid budget by 0.7%.
