Call for a Public Enquiry into the Fire at Lakanal House

On Wednesday this week I led a delegation of local Councillors, The Leader of Southwark Council and the GLA representative Val Shawcross AM to a meeting with the Secretary of State John Denham MP to explain why we feel a public enquiry into the tragic fire at Lakanal House is essential.

Many important questions have been asked - Why did the fire spread? Why were some people not rescued? What needs to be done to make similar blocks safe? Answers are not just important for the families and friends of those who died but for but for the people who live in identical or similar blocks. I shall contiue to work to ensure that these questions are answered.
