On Friday 4th April 2008 I visited East Street Market with Val Shawcross and Local Councillors.

East Street Market is important not only for the traders but as a hub for the local community providing good value fresh food. Markets have always been vital to enable newly arrived people in a community to start up their business. The founders of Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s started as market traders.

I am going to be working with GLA representative Val Shawcross, local Councillors Paul Bates, Lorraine Lauder and Abdul Mohamed and the Market Traders Association to ensure the lack of maintenance in East Lane is sorted out. East Lane needs a facelift.

The South London...

On Thursday 3rd April I visited the Felix Post Unit in the Maudsley Hospital.

The South London and Maudsely Trust are formally consulting users, carers and other stakeholders to gather their views about the proposed changes to the Felix Post Unit. The consultation takes place until the 23rd April 2008. If you wish to read the consultation it can be found at http://www.southwark.gov.uk/Uploads/FILE_32556.pdf

The Felix Post Unit is a unique example of mental health care for older people, it is clear from the letters I have received from my constituents that it is an innovative unit run by dedicated staff. I am concerned about what will happen to the 30 people who use the unit every day.

I continue to back moves by patients and unions to support the service provided by the Felix Post Day Unit.
