Meeting UN Special Representative - 18/01/11

Today I met with Margot Wallstrom, the United Nations Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict.  We discussed a range of issues and heard from Margot about how we, in the UK, can help raise awareness and tackle the violence that many women and girls face in places such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia and the Ivory Coast.

I am pictured with Yvette Cooper, the Shadow Foreign Secretary and Rushanara Ali, a member of my DFID team making the sign for ‘Stop Rape Now'. You can read more details about the ‘Stop Rape Now' campaign here - http://www.stoprapenow.org/index/
