Older Woman's Commission meeting in Durham 28/02/13

Pat Glass MP organised an excellent meeting of over 30 older women from across Durham and Newcastle today. It was interesting to listen to what these women had to say, especially to note the similarity between their stories. Most of these women worked, whilst most of their mothers didn't. And most of these women care for their grandchildren. They all told me that they wanted better representation on telly and in public life and felt that they were generally over looked. I will be feeding their comments back to the Older Women’s Commission which Yvette Cooper and I have set up to look into how we can better support this new generation of active older women.

After this meeting I joined nearly 150 Labour Party Members at a fundraising dinner at the Pavilion restaurant in Durham - which I would highly recommend to anyone in the area!
