Response to the Statement on the treatment of detainees 6th July

Today I responded to the Prime Minister's Statement on the treatment on detainees.

I asked whether the Prime Minister is continuing the efforts that we made to bring back the final remaining British resident who is still detained in Guantanamo detention centre.

I also asked the Prime Minister to acknowledge the importance of the Human Rights Act 1998, which enshrines in British law the European convention on human rights and the protections that article 3 affords: "No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment".
