Former MP for Camberwell and Peckham

Camberwell & Peckham is bearing the brunt of the Bedroom Tax - 1

The Bedroom Tax is hitting people hard in Camberwell and Peckham. It's unfair because it penalises people on low incomes (83% are single parents and 76% are unemployed); a family with 1 extra bedroom will have to find an extra £850 a year. It's unworkable because there aren’t enough smaller homes for people to move to (in Southwark there are only 160 smaller flats for over 4,000 people which means 96% can’t move). If people are forced to move because they can’t afford to pay it, it will break up families and undermine communities. picAnd it’s costing public money (Southwark Council have already spent over £500,000 in administration).
