Today at Deputy Prime Minister’s Questions I asked Nick Clegg how much children’s participation in school sport had fallen since the Government abolished Labour’s School Sports Partnerships, which had increased the number of children doing two hours of high quality PE each week from 25% in 1997 to over 90% by 2010.
He was unable to answer. This Government has abolished the School Sports Survey which measured how much school sport children were doing.
Our Freedom of Information requests show that at a time when everyone wants more children involved in more sport, the amount of PE teacher time spent organising school sport has fallen by 60%. This is a travesty.
