Concern over the Care Quality Commission's findings

I am concerned by the Care Quality Commission's (CQC) report published today which names Southwark Council as one of eight local authorities failing to provide a good enough service for the elderly and disabled.

Southwark Council must act. They should not be protesting about the findings, but should apologise to the elderly residents and ensure that the people who need care are cared for properly. It is particularly concerning that Southwark Council does not listen to the elderly.

I will be working with neighbouring Member of Parliament Tessa Jowell MP and contacting organisations to monitor the experiences of vulnerable people using the services that Southwark Council provides.

I will also be asking the CQC to provide regular reports on Southwark's progress towards improving standards.
