DifD should not pay for Papal Visit - 03/02/11

Harriet Harman MP, Labour's Shadow International Development Secretary and Shadow Deputy Prime Minister, today challenged Secretary of State for International Development Andrew Mitchell on funding for the Papal visit, saying:

"The Tory-led Government shouldn't be siphoning off DFID funds to subsidise Foreign Office expenditure on State Visits. DFID money should be to tackle poverty and global inequality, not to support Foreign Office diplomacy. The Foreign Office should pay it back."
