Today saw the fifth pre-inquest review into the tragic fire at Lakanal House which happened more than three years ago. It is about time the inquest takes place - the bereaved families must have important questions answered.
But it is also essential that people living in Sceaux Gardens, and especially in Marie Curie the neighbouring near identical block to Lakanal House, are not shut out of the inquest.
I argued for Sceaux Gardens Tenants and Residents Association (T&RA) to retain Properly Interested Party status which would have allowed residents to cross-examine witnesses.
The coroner refused, but pledged the T&RA would have access to inquest documents and the chance to raise issues indirectly with witnesses. The coroner must honour her pledge.
