Harriet's statement on prosecution for killings of Zainab Kaloko

14/02/07

Harriet Harman, Member of Parliament for Camberwell and Peckham, today expressed her thanks to the police and the prosecution team who have brought 4 men to justice for the killings of Zainab Kalokoh and Ruth Okechukwu.

"Nothing can bring back Zainab and Ruth to their greiving families.  Again, I express my condolences to them for their loss.  The conviction of these men and the sentences handed down today will send out the message loud and clear that gang criminals will be caught and put in jail.

"This will tackle the 'culture of impunity' and make it clear that the gangs are not all-powerful. They will be caught and they will they will face justice.

"These sentences will be welcomed in a community of law-abiding hard-working people who are determined to work together, and with the police, to tackle the serious crime which has blighted so many families."
