I welcome the report of the Humanitarian Emergency Response Review chaired by Lord Ashdown.

This report will make a major contribution to improving the response of the international community and the UK to the growing number of humanitarian emergencies.

The UK is held in high regard around the world for our response to human emergencies - but Lord Ashdown is right that a reformed system can achieve more and that means change both internationally and in how our government helps in global emergencies.
