I welcome Sir Ken’s report into the fire at Lakanal House which has been published today. It clearly points to the need for a wide ranging inquest and paves the way for the “super inquest” which the bereaved families and local community are entitled to.
Many important questions have been raised, including - why did the fire spread and why were some people not rescued? Answers are important not just for the families of the people who died, but also for people who live in identical or similar blocks.
The inquest must happen sooner rather than later. I am asking for it to take place in Southwark Town Hall which is easily accessible and familiar to the local community.
