Prime Minister puts Harriet in charge of tackling inequalities

On 26th July 2007, the Prime Minister gave a written ministerial statement announcing that Harriet is the new Secretary of State for Equalities. You can read this statement in the Hansard Report on the Houses of Parliament website.

In this role, Harriet is responsible for equalities at Cabinet level and will be co-ordinating ministers across the Government to tackle inequalities.
