Saving the South London Line (09.04.10)

On Friday I spoke with rail users at Denmark Hill railway station and promised to continue to fight to save the South London Line.

London TravelWatch commissioned independent research which backed our claim that people will be disadvantaged when the service is axed in 2012.  The hospitals at Denmark Hill will be particularly affected, as will residents in Camberwell and Peckham.

The Mayor had agreed to carry out a review of the decision following community led pressure. I am disappointed the decision on a replacement service had failed to materialise.

The review should have been concluded and the findings presented to local stakeholders. Any delay is only adding to their concerns.  I will continue the fight to get a high priority given to our inner south London direct connections into central London.
