Today in the House of Commons I asked the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg about his Government's betrayal of a generation of young people.
London South Bank University (LSBU) is based in Southwark and has the highest proportion of students from families receiving free school meals in the UK. The majority of pupils come from Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.
LSBU is based in Simon Hughes MP's constituency, he is supposed to be the ‘Advocate for Access to Education' - this has proved to be a sham. He allowed university funding cuts which saw LSBU's grant fall from £38 million to £3 million. Meaning this university which has always done all they can to provide high quality higher education to local people on low incomes will now have to charge £8,450.
Simon Hughes shouldn't be breaking his promises: he should not be supporting this Tory led government which is making life harder for people in Southwark.
