Urban Concepts supports Harriet's bid for the Deputy Leadership

15/05/07

Harriet received this letter from Urban Concepts which outlines their support for Harriet in her bid for Deputy Leader. Urban Concepts is an organisation in Harriet's constituency which works to tackle gun crime in the black and ethnic community.

Dear Harriet,

We would like to add our support for your bid to be Deputy Prime Minister. There are many reasons being put forward and we endorse all of these reasons; however we would like to concentrate on your support for the Black and Ethnic communities, not only in the borough of Southwark, nationwide.

Since your personal intervention, firstly speaking to Tony Blair and then pursuing the Home Office for funding, the Urban Concepts campaign has truly become the voice of the black and ethnic community. Not only does the campaign represent the UK’s most established black and ethnic artists, who have a fan base of hundreds of thousands, under the banner of the Don’t Trigger Campaign our collaboration with Mothers Against Guns, MAMA, Families For Peace, Mothers Against Violence have made this a truly international organisation.

Thank you for your foresight into supporting this campaign at an early stage when other black politicians failed to grasp the impact it would have on our communities.

We wish you the best of luck with your nomination and we hope you are able to attend the Launch of the Don’t Trigger Campaign at City Hall on 7th June where we would like to officially thank you.

Kind regards,

Yours sincerely,

Raymond Stevenson
