Yesteday I visited Moorland’s Children’s Centre in Milton Keynes to celebrate the news that 3,000 Sure Start Children’s Centres have now been opened across the country.
Along with Local Labour MP, Phyllis Starkey and South East MEP, Peter Skinner, we welcomed the announcement that the Labour government is on track to fulfil its manifesto pledge of 3,500 centres open by next year.
I met with local mothers and their families to find out how Moorlands, a brand new children’s centre, has benefited them.
15 Children’s Centres, which offer a range of services for children under 5 and their families, are now open across Milton Keynes. But the £200 million cut proposed by David Cameron’s Conservatives means cutting almost 20 per cent of the Sure Start budget – the equivalent of closing one in five Children’s Centres.
