This morning I visited the London Mutual Credit Union (LMCU) in Peckham with Ed Miliband to announce Labour's plan to impose a levy on payday lenders that would be used to double the amount of public funding for low-cost alternatives, such as credit unions. As always it was a pleasure to visit the office and talk to the staff including Manager, Joan Driscoll, as well as talking to people who have been ripped off by pay day lenders. We were joined by Stella Creasy MP, new Shadow Minister for Competition and Consumer Affairs; Heather Crawford, LMCU President; Louis McLeod, LMCU Treasurer; Catherine McKinnell MP, Shadow Treasury Minister; and Lucky Chandrasekera, LMCU Chief Executive.
