Today I welcomed the new Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Abdul Mohamed, to the House of Commons. We talked about a variety of issues including the decision by Barclays Bank to close the Somali money transfer businesses that enable families to send money to familiy members back home. I am campaigning with the Mayor and my colleagues in Parliament against Barclay's decision because it will have severe consequences for the flow of remittances to some of the poorest families in the developing world.
