I have been determined to ensure that users are given what was promised when the Emergency Clinic at the Maudsley Hospital opposite Kings College Hospital was closed in 2007 - which was a "safe and secure" space "adjacent" and “separate” to the A&E department in Kings for patients with mental health emergencies.
Southwark PCT recently consulted on the plans which showed cubicles dotted around the emergency department and no separate and secure space as agreed.
I campaigned with Southwark Mind and South London MPs Tessa Jowell MP and Kate Hoey MP asking Southwark PCT reconsider these plans.
On 17th June I received confirmation that the Emergency College Department Board had agreed to our demands and will make provision for a safe and secure area for patients with mental health emergencies adjacent to the main emergency department. I am delighted.
