I've signed the Safe Lives pledge to commit to fight for my local Idvas and help keep domestic violence victims #SafeAtHome.

What is an Idva?

An Idva is a specialist professional who works with a victim of domestic abuse to develop a trusting relationship. They can help a victim with everything they need to become safe and rebuild their life, and represent their voice at a Multi-agency Risk Assessment Conference (Marac), as well as helping them to navigate the criminal justice process and working with the different statutory agencies to provide wraparound support. 

The impact of an Idva

Following support from an Idva service, at the closure of their cases:

• Nearly 60% of victims reported cessation of abuse

• 84% of victims reported feeling safer

• 81% of victims felt their quality of life had improved

Two out of three Idva services say they don't have access to sustainable funding. If we're going to keep more people safe at home, this has to change. 

I'm backing the BPAS 'My Pledge, Her Choice' campaign and have signed their pledge to commit to defend a woman's right to choose in Parliament.

Thanks to the enthusiastic Labour Bristol team for their determination to re-elect Thangam Debbonaire and Kerry McCarthy. It was a pleasure to campaign with them. 

A delight to be out with team Karin Smyth and local government beacon - Bristol Council Leader Helen Holland. 

Thanks to Cllrs Vicky Mills, Gavin Edwards, Jasmine Ali and all parents and children protesting Tory cuts to Southwark schools in Peckham Rye Park after school today. Children at Ivydale, Hollydale, Heber and Goodrich schools designed lovely posters about why they love their school and don't want any education cuts. 

I've signed the National Union of Teachers' pledge to show my support. It reads: 'I promise to oppose cuts to real terms per pupil funding in Camberwell and Peckham compared to 2015/16'. I will continue to work with local parents, teachers and the council to fight these Tory cuts all the way.

Out with local Labour members speaking to people at East Dulwich Station & Dog Kennel Hill Primary School this morning as national campaigning recommences following the terrible attack in Manchester.

Great to join our brilliant Labour candidate Peter Kyle to speak to local parents in Brighton this morning. All parents there very concerned about the Tories' proposed school cuts - which are so grim. Labour will fight these cuts all the way #keephovelabour 

Very productive meeting with Peckham Citizens this afternoon at Copleston Church Centre - pleased to be working together to improve local job opportunities and community housing.

Peckham Citizens is an alliance of local institutions which includes Rye Lane Baptist Chapel, Pecan, the Hidaya Women's Association, St James the Great Primary and All Saints Peckham that work together to improve the neighbourhood. Peckham Citizens is a branch of citizensuk.org

Thanks to Councillor Barrie Hargrove and local members for joining me to listen to parents' concerns at Harris Academy Primary Peckham Park this morning. 

This morning I attended Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts' groundbreaking ceremony on its new site behind Peckham Library with Council Leader Peter John OBE and local councillors Evelyn Akoto, Barrie Hargrove and Johnson Situ. Due to open in Autumn 2018, I could not be more pleased that Mountview has found its new home in Peckham.

Mountview coming to Southwark will provide important opportunities for the hugely talented young people of Peckham to get involved in arts and theatre, open up career choices and build on Peckham's already vibrant arts scene. 

Every child has the right to explore their artistic and creative potential, and research shows creative and cultural learning supports attainment in all subjects. I look forward to working with Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, schools and Southwark Council to make this move a success for the local community and the UK's creative industries.

At the heart of the Peckham community at Angel Oak Academy Primary this morning with local councillors Barrie Hargrove, Johnson Situ and Sunny Lambe. We heard parents and the Deputy Headteacher's concerns about local issues and pupils being hit by Tory school cuts of £941 each by 2020. 

Wes Streeting has been an outstanding MP & hope for the future of Labour. Local residents greatly admire him. Big team out tonight to re-elect him! Including Margaret Hodge, John Cryer and Jim Fitzpatrick.

This morning I joined councillors, local businesses and voluntary organisations to celebrate those who do good for others in the London Borough of Southwark at Southwark Cathedral. Congratulations to all the well-deserved Civic Awards winners - including Cherie Johnson, Anne Bowers, Jo Harding, Vallin Miller, Beryl Peckham and Link Age Southwark based in Camberwell - and to the newly elected Mayor of Southwark Charlie Smith, and Deputy Mayor of Southwark Jamille Mohamed.
