There are only 295 days left before the next General Election which is due to take place on Thursday 7th May 2015. Purna Sen, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Brighton Pavilion held her campaign launch with over 100 members and supporters. I spoke about how the Government is keen to keep saying that there is a recovery but it hasn’t come to the doorstep of people around the country. Brighton Pavilion would benefit from having an MP like Purna whose work can bring change to the city. Labour is the only Party that wants to tackle the unfairness in the system. We have already suggested policies to ease the cost of living crisis immediately on energy prices, childcare and scrapping the bedroom tax.

Last night the Labour Party held its fourth annual business reception. The event brought together over 1,300 business - both large and small - from a broad cross section of industries, sectors and regions. This was the largest business engagement event the Party has held to date. The event was hosted by technology reporter and UK Digital Skills Taskforce Chair Maggie Philbin and the evening included speeches from Chuka Umunna, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls and Ed Miliband, Leader of the Labour Party.

The first joint meeting between the UK Labour Shadow Cabinet and the Welsh Labour Government Cabinet was held today at GE Aviation UK in Nantgarw, Wales.
The theme of the meeting was Investment in our future: in our young people, in jobs and apprenticeships. During the meeting Ed Miliband announced that Wales today saw the 10,000th young person get a job through Jobs Growth Wales. Wales continues to out perform the rest of the UK in tackling youth unemployment.

This morning I met with staff and parents at the school gate as they dropped their children off at Brunswick Park Primary school in Camberwell. I was joined by local councillors Kieron Williams and Tom Flynn, and asked the parents how things were going at the school and whether they wanted to raise any issues with me, and I let them know how they could contact me in the future if they needed to. I was pleased to see the Acting Deputy Head, Shauna Sharkhey and Assistant Head, Andrea Iniss, and hear that everything was going well at the school.

London Labour’s regional organisers joined in Parliament together to celebrate the successes of the 2014 Elections and discuss the campaign priorities for the future. Labour gained just over 200 additional Councillors in London gaining control of David Cameron’s ‘favourite council’ of Hammersmith & Fulham and four other London Boroughs – making gains from the Tories and Lib Dems. We also doubled our MEPs from 2 – 4 in London. I congratulated the team on their success and spoke about how we can keep up the momentum ahead of next year’s General Election.
